About
The God Is Poor initiative was founded just before Thanksgiving 2022 when the site author came upon a beautifully decorated sign reading, "Bum Island Albany, NY Est. 2022." He perceived the sign as very likely to be an expression of hatred toward the poor. After careful thought, he covered the offensive portion with transparent tape over a piece of paper on which he had written "God Is Poor." Because he hadn't learned the actual intent behind the sign, he took no action when, after a few weeks, his addition to it was removed. A week or two later, the sign was gone. The initial experience must have been one of the things on his mind when he wrote his Christmas 2022 essay "A drum solo about caring for others."
